Clifford Chance chief steps down to take banking role

Clifford Chance chairman Keith Clark this week announced that he is to leave the firm and join banking giant Morgan Stanley as its international general counsel and a member of its European executive committee.Mr Clark, who has been a partner at Clifford Chance since 1977 and its chairman since 1993, will take up his post in the new year.During his time as chairman, the firm has merged with US firm Rogers & Wells, German firm Pnder Volhard Weber & Axster, and Luxembourg firm Faltz & Kremer.Mr Clark said: 'When I became chairman in 1993, I set myself the task of overseeing the development of the world's first truly global law firm - with the mergers in 2000, this is now in place, and having achieved my aim, it's time to move on to fresh challenges.'In his new role, Mr Clark will be responsible for Morgan Stanley's international legal work.
