The Law Society is seeking to appoint members to its company law committee.
Members will help to formulate responses to consultations on proposals for new, and amendments to existing, company and financial services law, and will promote improvements to law and procedure in these areas of practice.
The committee is closely involved in the government's review of company law and proposals for new European legislation.
Its remit also covers the Takeover Panel, the Listing Rules, the Financial Services and Markets Act, accounting and auditing standards and insolvency law.
The committee meets on a monthly basis and, in addition, members are expected to contribute to working parties on more specialised areas, for example, directors' duties, corporate governance and company charges.
Applications are invited from lawyers with practice experience in company and financial services law who are able to contribute positive ideas and to commit time to the heavy workload of the committee and its various working parties.
The Law Society wishes to encourage applications from all eligible solicitors irrespective of gender, race, colour, age, sexual orientation or disability and appointments will be based on merit, following an open and clear selection process.
For an application pack, contact Jane McCormack at the Law Society on 020 7320 5636; fax 020 7320 5673; e-mail jane.mccormack@lawsociety.org.uk; or write to the Law Society at 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL; DX 56 London/Chancery Lane.
The closing date for applications is 30 April 2004.
