Council membership committee - vacancies

The Law Society's council membership committee was established under the Society's by-laws to oversee the representative nature of the council.

Key tasks include advising the council on the type of solicitor who should fill the non-constituency seats and keeping under review the size of the council and the constituency boundaries.

To ensure that the committee itself is properly representative, members are drawn from geographical regions and from the main Law Society groups. There are currently two vacancies: one for a representative from the Association of Women Solicitors and the other for a representative from the Greater London region. The term of appointment would be three years subject to any changes that might be made to committee arrangements in that period.

In the past, the time commitment required has not been high; however, the committee is involved in the Law Society reform process and consequently the number of meetings in 2001 may increase to four or five.

Nominations are invited from women solicitors to fill the Association of Women Solicitors seat and from solicitors in the Greater London region for the Greater London seat.Nominations should be sent as soon as possible to Elizabeth Kwok, Corporate Administration, The Law Society, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL.
