The estate comprises around 600 buildings totalling about 1.5 million square metres spread across the UK.

Under the terms of the private finance initiative arrangement, Mapeley is required to provide the departments with serviced accommodation over the next 20 years.

Nabarro Nathanson advised Mapeley.

Herbert Smith advised senior debt providers the Halifax.

Flightiest deal: Manchester-based Chaffe Street solicitors has advised British European on its order of 12, and further option to purchase eight, 112-seat Avro RJX-100 passenger aircraft from BAE Systems worth up to $600 million (429 million).

BAE was represented in-house.

Most water-tight deal: London-based Curtis Davis Garrard has advised Harland and Wolff on its two-ship contract with the consortium AWSR.

The contract is part of the Ministry of Defences strategic lift programme, under which AWSR is to deliver a number of support vessels as part of the expansion of the navy.

Berwin Leighton acted for AWSR.

Simmons & Simmons acted for the MoD.

Most watchable deal: Norton Rose has advised TD Bank Europe and Salomon Brothers International on the recent 300 million revolving credit facility for UK satellite broadcaster, British Sky Broadcasting Group.

Herbert Smith advised BSkyB.

Fishiest deal: Pinsent Curtis Biddle has acted for Youngs Bluecrest Seafood, the UKs largest processor of frozen, chilled and fresh seafood in the sale of 44% of its shareholding by United Biscuits to Legal & General Ventures (LGV).

Youngs holds a 60% market share in chilled and frozen fish products.

United Biscuits were represented by Allen & Overy.

CMS Cameron McKenna acted for LGV.

Denton Wilde Sapte acted for Royal Bank of Scotland, which provided additional loan facilities.
