The spinners at Denton Wilde Sapte were busy last week explaining to the world the reasons why the City firm was pulling out of Hong Kong, Beijing, Singapore and Tokyo.
A statement said it was 'all part of the strategy review announced last year', which decided the firm should 'play to its strengths and focus internationally', 'deploy resources more effectively', 'put further emphasis on better client management and industry sector knowledge', etcetera.
The strategy was being implemented to 'improve profitability to enable the firm to invest further in its infrastructure and people', which will no doubt go down well with the lawyers and staff in Asia who have just been, how shall we put it, de-invested.
Obiter would like to make one suggestion in relation to the new strategy - how about updating the firm's Web site? A good place to start would be the statement from chairman James Dallas, which reads (with our emphasis): 'Supported by an expanding international network and well-trained, highly motivated lawyers with first-class industry knowledge, we'll become an integral part of your team.' While you are about it, you could also update the link to the firm statistics.
Remove the figures for Denton International - you may not have noticed, but Obiter thought you pulled out of the network last December.
