DEVALUED CURRENCY ; ;Now I am really depressed. Mike Frith, a compliance officer at the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors, has signally failed to follow my argument (see [2000] Gazette, 9 November, 18). ;I do not suggest that a solicitors correspondence should ever be either rude or offensive. However, the solicitors message should not be cocooned in a mushy layer of cod psychology. The client is entitled to a clear statement of the solicitors case. ;Even if every commercial organisation finds it possible to apologise (which I dispute) must we inevitably follow the herd? The currency is devalued if a client can expect an apology irrespective of the merits of his argument. ;John Alcock, Davis Blank Furniss, Manchester ; ; ;
