Election statement plays to the terraces

Obiter is pleased to see that the young solicitors cabal, starring the likes of Mark Dillon, Richard Moorhead and Nick Armstrong - all one-time leaders of the younger branch of the profession - has come to the fore once more with the election of Hannah Wiskin as the Young Solicitors Group's representative on the Law Society's ruling council.

Ms Wiskin has followed the tried and tested path of Trainee Solicitors Group chairman to YSG prominence, and can often be found in smoke-filled rooms with her fellow, highly political cohorts plotting the future leadership of Chancery Lane.

But her election statement indicated that she likes smoky atmospheres in general, as she recorded her 'avid' support for 'big screen entertainment'.

Does this mean she enjoys nothing better on a Sunday afternoon than popping down the pub to watch the footie? Erm, no.

'Perhaps I got a few blokes voting for me as a result,' Ms Wiskin laughed.

'But, in fact, I like European art house cinema.'
