Law firm Howells has again teamed up with advice organisation A4e to become the preferred bidder for the proposed Leicester Community Legal Advice Centre (CLAC) from 1 April, the Legal Services Commission confirmed this week.
Last year, the Sheffield-based pair won the contract to provide the CLS (Community Legal Service) Direct service in a £1.8 million contract.
Law Society legal aid manager Richard Miller said he was concerned that neither organisation had any connection with Leicester. He added: 'This appears to be the end of local advice networks for Leicester and poses questions about the commission's whole approach to the "community" aspect of CLACs.'
