GETTING PHYSICAL

I read with interest your article on the adaptation of offices to provide facilities for disabled clients (see [2001] Gazette, 8 November, 28).

We moved into new premises on 1 December 2000 and in compliance with building regulations - and at a cost much more than the 700 average quoted in the article - we raised floor levels to provide wheelchair access and installed a disabled toilet. In the period of nearly one year since we installed the facilities, I have to report that they have not been used once by any physically disabled person. It would be interesting to see whether other practices have similar experiences. On the whole, if a client is physically disabled we tend to visit them rather than having them visit us.Raymond Hayes, Bartons Solicitors, Salcombe, Devon
