The 'Advice Q&A' column (see [2008] Gazette, 3 April, 31) guided the enquirer, who had just set up their own firm, to the Law Society's sections for help. If someone has set up as a sole practitioner they can also get practical advice from the Sole Practitioners Group - a group recognised by the Law Society.

Its website (www.spg.uk.com) includes a forum, useful information, offers and contact details. Committee members are happy to be contacted to give advice and support too.

On 16-18 May, the group has its conference in Brighton, which has a programme tailor-made for sole practitioners. The group warmly invites existing sole practitioners and those considering going solo to attend.
