Hair-raising issue

The New Labour government is forever lecturing us on the need for modernisation and the importance of being 'new'.

It is in sharp contrast that Lord Irvine proposes to extend the wearing of wigs to solicitor-advocates (see [2001] Gazette, 5 July, 1).

Surely the time has come to end for all the ridiculous ancient tradition of donning a piece of horse's hair.
