HELPING THE ELDERLY
It is disappointing that little or no information appears in the Gazette about Solicitors for the Elderly, a national group which was set up some three years ago and which will be holding its third national conference in London on 9 November. Its aim is to develop the expertise of those of us who are dealing with the many issues that affect older people, and much of the training is being provided by regional groups set up all over the country, which offer local and reasonably priced training together with the much- desired continuing professional development points.
In addition, the aim is that members of the general public will be aware of solicitors who have taken the trouble to train themselves in the many areas which affect the elderly, not least of which is the question of funding of long-term nursing care.
A code of practice has been developed and the organisation receives many referrals from charities.
If readers would like to learn more about the organisation and how to obtain membership, they should telephone 01733 326769.
