Home loan: Magic circle firm Allen & Overy advised Nationwide Building Society on creating a £1.5bn residential mortgage-backed security on a £32bn loan portfolio. Lead managers UBS, Deutsche Bank and Bank of America Merrill Lynch were advised by US firm Sidley Austin.

Portfolio purchase: London and Milton Keynes firm EMW advised the UK arm of Spanish bank Santander on acquiring former building society Abbey National’s £500m property portfolio from property outsourcer Mapeley, advised by magic circle firm Linklaters and national firm DLA Piper.

Wragge trade: Birmingham firm Wragge & Co advised pharmaceuticals wholesaler Phoenix Pharmahandel on the UK aspects of a €3.6bn (£2.3bn) refinancing, with magic circle firms Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Clifford Chance advising banks on the deal. Wragge & Co also advised national newspaper, magazine and book distributor Smiths News on obtaining a £135m credit facility. South-west firm Osborne Clarke advised the lenders.

Power supply: Clifford Chance advised Dubai Electricity & Water Authority on loan note issues worth $2bn (£1.3bn) in total. Magic circle firm Linklaters advised joint bookrunners Citi, Credit Agricole Investment Bank, the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, Standard Chartered Bank and the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Set in stone: City firm Herbert Smith advised a consortium of banks, including Crédit Agricole and UniCredit, on a €920m (£800m) refinancing for Italian cement producer Italcementi, advised by Italian firm d'Urso Gatti e Bianchi Studio Legale.

All of a part: City firm Hogan Lovells advised car manufacturer BMW on leasing a 460,000 sq ft warehouse in Northamptonshire, to become its parts distribution centre for UK and Ireland from 2012, from distribution facilities provider ProLogis, advised by its in-house team.
