I WANT TO FLY AWAY I recently read Sean Stocks' letter about emigrating (see [2001] Gazette, 5 January, 13).
Within an hour, I had waited 14 minutes 39 seconds listening to a recorded message at the Legal Services Commission area 1 office, which exhorted me to carry on holding as my call would be answered shortly.I then spent some time ascertaining from the Legal Services Commission that an urgent request for guidance and/or funding which was made on December 4 would not be dealt with because the person handling the case had taken the file home and would not be available until 9 January. Finally, I spent about 20 minutes on the telephone to the Yorkshire & Humberside regional office of the LSC trying to establish why a previously revoked certificate was now 'live', but wasn't really live because it was terminated by discharge, except that it couldn't be because it had already been revoked.Legal Services? I giggle.
Access to justice? I laugh uproariously.
Is there any room on that plane, Mr Stocks?John S Speight, AMS Law, Sheffield
