Immigration law panel - appointment of chief assessor
The Law Society is inviting applications for the part-time position of chief assessor of the immigration law panel.
It is particularly interested in hearing from solicitors with significant experience in immigration law, particularly asylum applications and judicial reviews, who can afford to devote up to approximately two days per month to panel related work.The post, which will carry an honorarium of 4,500 per annum plus expenses, will involve:l Supervising panel assessors in the marking of applications to ensure consistency and that the standard is maintained;l Prepare for publication competencies for immigration practitioners and connect these to the application questionnaire and marking scheme;l Providing assistance with training seminars for the panel of assessors;l Updating panel related paperwork as and when required;l Advising and reporting to the relevant Law Society committees;l Advising Law Society adjudicators on individual appeals against refusals of applications;l Advising the Law Society staff on individual applications and technical issues.The appointment will be for a contracted term of three years, subject to a period of notice on either side.For additional details, write to Christine Caswell of the Professional Accreditation (Development) Unit, the Law Society, Ipsley Court, Redditch, Worcestershire B98 0TD, DX; 19114 Redditch; or tel: 01527 517141 extension 3460; or fax: 01527 500018; or e-mail: christine.caswell@lawsociety.org.ukFor an informal discussion please telephone the above.
