insurance ire

I, like many other practitioners will no doubt have been delayed this year, as was the case last year, by professional indemnity insurers seeking my business.I have spent a considerable amount of time completing at least seven proposal forms to receive three quotations and a telephone call from the brokers to the effect that the underwriters were so inundated with proposals they had not time to cope with all the applications for quotations.Surely it is time that as a profession we got away from this farcical situation, which appertains at the end of each insurance year when the world and his wife are on holiday, and brokers and underwriters have staff on holiday, to say nothing of members of the profession itself. We must be able to devise a system where insurance certificates can be produced to the Law Society throughout the year or alternatively at least move the insurance year away from 1 September.TC Sutton, Suttons Commercial Chambers, Bishop Auckland, Durham
