Kemp & Co becomes first law firm to be registered as LLP

City-based technology firm Kemp & Co has become the first firm to be registered officially by the Law Society as a limited liability partnership.A number of firms have registered LLP names with Companies House since the LLPs legislation came in to effect in April this year, but Kemp & Co becomes the first to practise law as a UK-registered LLP from the end of June. The firm has changed its name to Kemp Little LLP to account for the fact that Jonathon Little has become a partner.Mr Kemp said many of the firm's clients were US corporations with European branches, who are familiar with the concept of LLPs.He added: 'In fact, the clients we've spoken to see the move to LLPs in the UK very much as a natural next step, and if anything, they are surprised it's taken so long to make LLPs happen over here.'Jeremy Fleming
