Legal practice course board vacancyThe legal practice course (LPC) board has a vacancy.
Reporting to the Law Society's standards board, the LPC board deals with the approval and monitoring of institutions providing the LPC and exercises the powers of the Law Society under the Monitoring of Courses Regulations 1991.
Meetings are held in London about eight times a year.
In addition to attending meetings of the LPC board, it would be desirable that the member should participate in some assessment visits to LPC teaching institutions.
Applications are invited from experienced, senior LPC teaching staff from large LPC institutions.

Civil and commercial mediators - assessors requiredIn March 2000 the Law Society council agreed to the establishment of an accreditation scheme for civil and commercial mediators.
The civil and commercial mediation panel is scheduled to launch before the end of December 2001 with applications from trained mediators wishing to apply for general membership and for those trained and experienced mediators wishing to apply for practitioner membership.
The Society now wishes to recruit assessors, with substantial experience in civil and commercial mediation practice, to mark assessment questionnaires/portfolios which are submitted by experienced and trained mediators wishing to apply for practitioner membership.Remuneration will be paid for each portfolio assessed or interview attended.
The appointment will be the subject of a service agreement between the individual assessor and the Society.The closing date for receipt of applications will be 26 November 2001.
