Lawyers clinch TV deal as Richard and Judy change sides
The legal world collided with the land of pastel-coloured sofas and makeovers last week, as lawyers concluded the deal which saw Channel Four dramatically poach Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan, the king and queen of ITV daytime television. The deal was concluded in just one day under conditions of great secrecy.
Berwin Leighton Paisners head of media law, Jonathan Cameron, advised independent television company Cactus TV, which is producing the programme.
He said the deal was one of the easiest and friendliest he had worked on because all involved knew the environment and the parameters.
Mr Cameron professed himself a huge fan of the husband and wife team, and said he tries to watch their show in his office whenever possible, although this occasionally causes a problem with my time recording.Channel 4 was advised in-house, while Barry Smith of Richards Butler acted for Richard and Judy.Victoria MacCallum
