The Court of Justice of the European Union will be holding a day of reflection to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Van Gend en Loos judgment (delivered on 5 February 1963).

During the event, to be held in Luxembourg on 13 May, the judgment will be examined as a source of, and a framework for, the principles that have shaped the constitutional structure of the EU. The judgment will also be considered as a source of potential for promoting the development of European integration.

The conference, which is intended for all law professionals and the academic world of the EU, will be held in French and English.

The programme will comprise three working sessions, each of which will address specific aspects of the Van Gend en Loos judgment, which is one of the foundations of the EU’s legal system. More details on the conference are available at the court’s website.
