Carolyn Kirby is the deputy vice-president of the Law Society and the council member for Mid and West Wales.
She has been in private practice in Swansea since 1979.
During six years as a non-executive director of a health authority, she sat on managers' hearings for psychiatric patients.
In 1996 she was appointed as a legal member of the mental health review tribunal, becoming chairman for Wales in 1999.
She represents the interests of clients with severe disabilities and is chairman of Cancer Information Support Services, a charity offering support to cancer sufferers.
