Most IT projects at LCD over budget, figures show

Eleven out of 14 IT projects commissioned by the Lord Chancellor's Department (LCD) are over budget, figures released in parliament reveal.Excluding the court IT projects Libra and LOCCS, which have both undergone major delivery changes, the budgets of the remaining projects have increased by 22.4% in total - now costing 149 million.Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor Matthew Taylor said: 'This is the latest in a series of high-profile failures which have dented confidence in government IT projects.

Having wasted so much money on wallpaper, perhaps the Lord Chancellor should keep a tighter rein on departmental spending.'An LCD spokesman said the cost of the Libra project, which will provide a unified system for magistrates' courts, had increased owing to contractual changes.Andrew Towler
