LSB takes its time

Regulators have given themselves two extra months to ponder controversial proposed reforms of the ways solicitors can practise. The Legal Services Board said it would respond to the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s proposals – which are vigorously opposed by the Law Society – by 5 November. 

Prepare for the bench

A pre-application seminar for legal professionals seeking to apply for a first judicial appointment is being offered as part of the programme to encourage greater judicial diversity. The workshop will be held at Nottingham Justice Centre on 18 October. See tinyurl.com/y7owxjn2. 

Capital acquisition

Full-service firm JPC Law has acquired the central London practice Terence St J Millett, with four partners joining as part of the residential real estate team.

Mayfair privacy firm 

Reputation and privacy lawyers have announced the opening of new firm Himsworth Scott. The practice is co-founded by Himsworth Legal founder Matt Himsworth and director Jess Lovell, with former Schillings partner Chris Scott. 

Legal scholarship

Applications have opened for the 2019/20 H M Hubbard Law Scholarship awards. The scheme awards up to £28,000 to postgraduate law students, trainees and qualified solicitors who wish to study law in Canada, France or Spain. See hubbardlawscholarship.com. 

Moscow venture

Citing ‘geopolitical tensions’, two partners and other staff at the Moscow office of US international firm Akin Gump announced the creation of a local spin-off, Rybalkin, Gortsunyan & Partners.
