The government has launched a consultation on dispute-related proposals designed to 'protect the interests of UK businesses operating in Europe'. The 'Rome I' proposals are intended to provide clarity over which law applies if a dispute arises over a contract made between people or businesses from different countries. The government opted out of the original proposals, which were issued by the European Commission in 2005, but has now agreed to opt in following substantial revisions.
