Partners at Pinsents and Masons are voting on a proposed merger that would create a top 15 UK firm by revenue. The combined firm would have offices in all the largest cities in Britain, total revenues of more than £150 million and more than 250 partners.

Pinsents currently has offices in London, Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester while Masons' complementary geographical base will add in Bristol, Edinburgh, and Glasgow, as well as its London, Leeds and Manchester offices.

Pinsents has more than 150 partners at present, while Masons has just fewer than 100. The firms' latest annual revenue figures show turnover of £91 million at Pinsents, compared to £67 million at Masons. Average profits per partner are similar at £270,000 for Pinsents and £247,000 at Masons.

A spokesman for Pinsents confirmed that the talks are at an advanced stage, with the results of the vote known in the next fortnight.
