Preliminary notice is hereby given under bye-law 56 that with effect from 14 September 2000 there will be a vacancy in the office of a Council member for the following constituency:Constituency No 2, the City of London: this vacancy has arisen following the resignation of George Warren Staple, CB, QC.The Council has fixed 15 September 2000 as the election date for filling this vacancy.

The successful candidate will serve the unexpired portion of Mr Staple's term of office, that is, until the conclusion of the AGM in 2002, being eligible for re-election thereafter.Nominations should be received by the Secretary-General, The Law Society, The Law Society's Hall, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL (LDE 56) no later than 3 August 2000.
