Preliminary notice of council elections

Preliminary notice is hereby given under by-law 56 that vacancies exist for the office of a Law Society Council member for the following constituencies:l Constituency No.17, Dorset - this vacancy has arisen by the resignation of John Arthur Sneary;l Constituency No.41, Leeds - this vacancy has arisen by the resignation of Roger Ibbotson.The council has fixed Thursday, 30 August 2001 as the election date for filling these vacancies.

The successful candidates will serve the unexpired portions of their predecessors' terms of office, that is, until the conclusion of the AGM in 2004 in the case of the member elected in constituency No.

17 (Dorset), and until the conclusion of the AGM in 2003 in the case of the member elected in constituency No.

41 (Leeds), being eligible for re-election thereafter.Nominations should be received by the Chief Executive, The Law Society, The Law Society's Hall, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL (LDE 56) not later than Wednesday, 18 July 2001.
