Quick on the draw
In what some might say is a metaphor for the legal profession, the recent Law Society versus Bar cricket match ended with the Bar's delightfully named team, The Refreshers, hanging on for dear life as the deadly solicitors sought to take the one wicket they needed for victory.
The Society's 202-6 dec was built on a tremendous opening stand of 122 between Shoosmiths partner Miles Harbot (below), who made 91, and Ian Hamilton of Stevenage firm Hamilton Davies (83).
The Bar took it hard, we are told, with the applause on Mr Harbot reaching 50 'so polite it was almost inaudible'.
The Bar lost wickets regularly, but the last pair held off the Society's attack to snatch a draw, closing on 182-9.
