Racing ace eyes winning formula
What is it about the law that turns solicitors into petrol-heads? Obiter has recorded numerous examples of them racing, sponsoring, hiring and generally playing with fast cars, but Lawrence Phillips, a partner at City firm Tarlo Lyons, perhaps tops them all.
He participates in the Sports 2000 (or Sports 2) series, which revs into action again this month and is shown on Sky Sports; both Mr Lawrence himself and the firm sponsor the car, although what Mr Lawrence stands to gain from that arrangement is hard to see.
The series takes in famous tracks such as Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington, Spa (Belgium) and the Nurburgring (Germany) during the six-month championship.
Last year, he was lying fifth before an accident damaged his car sufficiently to end his season.
This year, he says with admirable Sky Sports hype, its going to be different.
