The Law Society has recently sent to all non-practising solicitors the application form (KR1) inviting them to keep their names on the roll.
A reminder letter was sent explaining that the Society could remove the solicitor's name from the roll if a reply was not received.
Under section 5(b) and (c) of the Solicitors (Keeping of the Roll) Regulations 1999, the Society will remove the names of any solicitors from the roll who do not ask for their names to be retained.
The Law Society has published a list of solicitors who potentially may be removed from the roll.
The list containing the solicitor's name, Law Society number and admission date can be viewed on the Web site at www.lawsociety.org.uk, under 'All Services', 'Our Services', 'Solicitor Annual Enrolment'.
Any solicitor whose name appears on this list and who wishes to request an application form should contact the Society's information services unit as soon as possible, tel: 0870 606 2555.
Those telephoning from overseas should use +44(0) 1527 504450.
The lines are open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
Note that calls may be monitored for training purposes only.
Alternatively, contact information services by e-mail at: info.services@lawsociety.org.uk.
Solicitors who know of someone who wishes to remain on the roll and whose name is listed, should ask them to contact information services as soon as possible.
