SEEING SENSE
As a sole practitioner, I agree with and support the views expressed by AJ Bingham and John Llewelyn (see [2000] Gazette, 17 August, 18-19).
I also found Aon and Law Insure to be the best quoters for indemnity insurance.
How Paul Cusition of St Paul can describe his company's quotes as 'sensible pricing' beggars belief when, in my case and with no claims, it was several times that of the best alternatives - and significantly more than last year's Solicitors Indemnity Fund (SIF) contribution.
I would like to know what will happen to the assets of the SIF (including its extremely marketable London office) now the need for the fund and its large internal bureaucracy will decrease over the years as cover for claims is increasingly taken up by the approved insurers?
I question the need for the level of the continuing SIF shortfall contribution when these SIF corporate assets are there to be realised and revert to the profession whose contributions they reflect.
