The London Solicitors Litigation Association has said that the Queen's Counsel system should be scrapped in favour of a kite mark standard to be awarded to members of both professions.

Inevitably, if a kite mark standard were to be introduced, it would generally be recognised only by the legal profession and not by the general public.

The public is familiar with the QC system and it should be retained, with QCs being appointed by the Bar Council. Nevertheless, it is high time that eminent solicitors should be recognised by the Law Society. Queen's Solicitor (QS) seems to me to be entirely appropriate. To be recognised by your own professional body is a far greater honour than to be appointed by the government of the day.
