A solicitor has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was injured in Sussex. Police were called to an address in Crawley last Thursday following concerns for a man in possession of a knife.

The man was detained, during which time an officer suffered a minor laceration to his hand, a statement said. The officer was taken to hospital for treatment.

Jack Chao, 37, a solicitor from Crawley, was charged with attempted murder on Friday and was due to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court the following day.
