I suggest that the lot of Crown Prosecution Service lawyers (see [2004] Gazette, 15 July, 3) is infinitely better than that of an assistant solicitor in the average high street practice in terms of salary, conditions, hours and security. In addition, they do not have to deal with difficult clients.
The First World War advice of 'if you can find a better hole, go to it' should be offered to the CPS malcontents who, really, do not realise how well off they are.
