Summit of ambition Clive Whitfield-Jones, the managing partner of London firm Jeffrey Green Russell, is rightly bursting with pride at the OBE received by partner Ramesh Kanji Vala.

Mr Vala did indeed deserve his honour, to judge by his work for The Asha Foundation, the Cancer Relief Macmillan Fund and Anti-Slavery International; he has also climbed Mount Kenya (twice), ascended Mount Kilimanjaro, and hopped on his bicycle for many a long-distance charity trek.

But this honour has left Mr Vala with a new challenge, MrWhitfield-Jones informed us gushingly in a letter last week: 'It is often said that it is easier to give than to receive.

This will be a major new challenge for Ramesh - to accept the thanks and recognition of the nation for no other reason than his constant ability to give of himself.' Well, it can't be any harder than climbing Kilimanjaro, can it?
