I have just read your news item speculating that the Conservative Party may abandon its pledge to scrap home information packs (HIPs) (see [2008] Gazette, 2 October, 2).
This is not true. At the party conference, shadow housing minister Grant Shapps said: ‘The government is in denial about the state of the housing market but we know that their red tape has exacerbated the situation… So we’ll scrap the useless… expensive… bureaucratic… home information packs to make it easier to sell your own home.’
What we do agree on, and what Owen Inskip (adviser to Shapps) would have been suggesting, is that we will look for anything useful to come out of the HIPs debacle to feed into our home-buying review.
