I could not believe my eyes when I read Lindsay Keith's letter - 'Lasting Impression' - on lasting powers of attorney (LPAs) in last week's Gazette (see [2008], 10 April, 16).
While I agree that the paperwork generated is horrendous, once a solicitor has familiarised himself with the main provisions in the documentation, those provisions are - while tiresome - not exacting. I can see no reason in most cases why it would not be possible to prepare an LPA for a quarter of the figure Lindsay Keith quotes (at least £1,000 in addition to the registration fee and VAT). I have just completed my third.
