Solicitors should make 'converting enquiries into business' their top priority, a leading marketing consultant advised this week.

Speaking at the Law Society ?property section's spring conference, Ian Cooper, managing director of Cooper Communications, said there was no point spending money on marketing if firms failed to turn calls generated into profit.

He said: 'With less calls coming in due to the current market conditions, there is an even greater need to convert those that you are getting into work.'

Nick Jarrett-Kerr, partner at management consultancy Kerma Partners, told delegates to focus on their business strategy. He said: 'Partners should keep assistants, clerks and paralegals busy with the work that is still coming in, and free partners up to think about business planning.'

Meanwhile, estate agents who have offered home information packs at no upfront cost are reportedly pulling out of such schemes for fear they will not recoup the fees as the property market slows down.
