Unacceptable targetsI am surprised and dismayed at the cringing and alternately guilt-ridden and self-satisfied view of pro bono work expressed by so many solicitors. While the giving of pro bono advice is an entirely praiseworthy and acceptable means of charitable giving, it should not be assumed that those who choose not to give such advice do not give elsewhere or in other ways.I find the concept of an 'aspirational voluntary target' or, God forbid, a compulsory target completely unacceptable.Might I suggest that the topic of any target only be revisited as and when other businesses such as supermarkets and garages are under pressure to provide the disadvantaged with free trolleys full of groceries or free exhausts and tyres.Richard Marshall, Lupton Fawcett, Leeds
