The Sole Practitioners Group (SPG) is launching a new online toolkit to help members cope with changes in the legal sector, including the introduction of alternative business structures (ABSs).
The toolkit, sponsored by Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBoS), will give support and guidance on setting up and running a practice. It includes advice on management, succession planning, regulation and professional indemnity insurance.
New SPG chairman Hamish McNair, a London-based trademark and copyright solicitor, said: 'The practice of law in this country will be changed forever by the Legal Services Act as it opens the way for alternative business structures and other innovations. The toolkit will help ensure the best deal for sole practitioners in what is a rapidly evolving and often bewildering legal landscape.'
Delegates were also urged to register with Solo Swap, a new forum for members to share information and form links with other practitioners, including those who could act as locums. Registration is free and password-protected so only members can access names and addresses. For more information see www.spg.uk.com.
