For lawyers about to rock, Obiter salutes you.

Proving that there is more to life than timesheets, Isle of Wight-based solicitors rock band Brief Encounter recently celebrated its fifth anniversary with a concert in aid of the Kerry Green Trust, a charity that helps terminally ill children.

The members of the band are Stephen 'Stephen' Phillips (lead vocals and 'antics' - solicitor at Matthews Henshaw Verrinder), Rod 'Ball and' Chainey (bass and backing vocals - partner at Walter Gray & Co), Jim 'Big Jim' Thorn (keyboards - solicitor at Roach Pittis), Tony 'Couldn't' Careless (rhythm guitar - partner at Careless & Kemp) and Chris 'The' King (drums - partner at Heyes Samuel).

Those aren't their real nicknames, but hey.

Apparently 'solicitors actually want to come to Law Society dinner-and-dance evenings when they hear that the band is going to play'.

Rock on.

If you would like to hear Brief Encounter's repertoire - based on classics from bands such as the Kinks, the Monkees, the Beatles, and Manfred Mann - the supergroup, definitely not a boyband, can be heard at various venues through the year on the Isle of Wight.
