Every news outlet – even the ones that pretend to be above this sort of thing – has desperately tried to crowbar the Beckham family saga into headlines for 'search engine optimisation' purposes and easy clicks this week. (The Gazette, of course, wouldn't dream of it.)

But there was one piece of click-baiting that really got our attention in the wake of Brooklyn Beckham’s eye-catching posts about his relationship with his parents. The viral content platform SportBible ran with the headline ‘Brooklyn Beckham Sent "Warning" From Solicitor After Explosive Statement on Family’.

This was potentially huge. Have David and Victoria instructed a solicitor to issue legal threats to their estranged son? Or has Brooklyn’s own solicitor warned him about publishing such bombshell revelations?

Alas, it was neither. The reality was rather more prosaic: Windsor-based firm Judge Law had put out a timely press release with some sensible general advice on how social media posts, interviews and statements can be relied upon later in court, and how it is probably better in family disputes to hold your peace. Whilst it may have been prompted by Brooklyn’s public airing of his dirty laundry, there was certainly no ‘warning’ sent by any solicitor to the young man.

Indeed, SportBible ended its report with a pretty important disclaimer: ‘It must be noted that legal proceeding [sic] are not active between the parties.’

Still, those clicks were no doubt gratefully received.
