Ronald Graham: joins Edwin Coe as a partner Well-known practitioner Muiris Lyons kicks off this week's round-up, moving from Bath-based firm Withy King to become a partner and head of clinical negligence at the London office of Alexander Harris, which has just moved to new offices on The Strand. Mr Lyons acts for Natalie Evans, who is seeking the right to use her stored frozen embryos for IVF treatment.


Elsewhere in the capital, corporate recovery partner David Pacey swaps Reid Minty for the London office of Manchester-based Halliwells.



Edwin Coe has hired corporate specialist Ronald Graham as a partner from the London office of US/UK firm Jones Day.



William Cawley leaves City firm Stephenson Harwood to join niche shipping practice EG Arghyrakis & Co as a partner.



Jim Meyer and Richard Egan are promoted to partner in the London office of specialist crime firm Tuckers.



South London legal aid firm Fisher Meredith has made up Linda Hawkes and Elizabeth Jones, joint deputy heads of the family team, to salaried partners. The firm now has nine partners.



Four new partners at Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire firm Taylor Walton: James Carpenter (commercial litigation), Ian McLoone (commercial property) and Patrick McGrath (banking) are promoted internally, while David von Hagen joins from City firm Kendall Freeman, where he was head of employment. The firm now has 24 partners.


Corporate finance lawyer Phil Baigent has been made up at east midlands firm Freeth Cartwright.


Ann Krieger: planning specialist joins Fox Hayes

In Manchester, Janet Fleming, previously at Turner Parkinson, becomes a partner in the family department of Linder Myers. Associate Sally Leaman also makes the switch.

Planning specialist Ann Krieger joins Leeds firm Fox Hayes from the Manchester office of national firm Addleshaw Goddard to launch a planning and urban regeneration division.

South-west firm Withy King has hired construction specialist Nick Roberts from Bristol firm Bevan Ashford.



Matthew Elias (wills and probate) and Alex Wilson (matrimonial) join Derbyshire-based agricultural specialist Nigel Davis as an assistant and consultant respectively from Leek firm Bowcock & Pursaill.



In the north-west, Brabners Chaffe Street has promoted four new associates in its Liverpool office: Richard Roberts and Nick Wheeler in property, Duncan Bailey in private client, and Rachel Jones in commercial litigation.


South Manchester firm Neil Myerson has hired Claire Jackson, previously at Beachcroft Wansbroughs, as a senior solicitor in the commercial litigation department.

A number of Sheffield firms have made promotions and hires this week. Wake Smith has promoted Emilda Eaton (wills, probate and tax), Paul Gibbon (commercial property) and Chris Fry (industrial diseases) to associate.


Khalil Akhtar: joins Godloves' property team

Family and child law specialist Paul Szabo joins Watson Esam from Twigg Farnell in Dinnington.


And Taylor & Emmet has strengthened its commercial property team with assistants Chris Harvey from Doncaster firm Malcolm C Foy and Sanjeev Batra from the Leeds office of Ison Harrison.



Staying in Yorkshire, Leeds firm Godloves has boosted its property department by hiring assistants Mark Brookes from Wakefield firm Catteralls and Khalil Akhtar from Hammonds Direct in Bradford.



Two new assistants for York firm Denison Till: Valerie Stevenson (corporate) joins from the Leeds office of Addleshaw Goddard and Tiggy Clifford (employment) joins from the Hull office of Rollits.

David Bean QC, former chairman of the Bar Council, has been appointed a High Court judge.


Solicitor Stephen Baister has been appointed chief registrar in bankruptcy at the High Court.


Barristers Witold Pawlak and Kharin Cox have been appointed circuit judges, assigned to the south-eastern circuit.


Solicitor Michael Anson becomes a district judge on the midland circuit.


Barristers Andrew Vickers and Barbara Barnes have become district judges (magistrates' courts) in east Berkshire and greater London respectively.
