International reputation and privacy specialist Schillings has partnered up with an insurer to build 'innovative solutions' to help clients if they ever have to deal with ransom or extortion threats.

The partnership between Schillings Critical Risk, which is part of the London-headquartered firm, and Brit Ltd was announced by the insurance company today.

According to the announcement, some 30,000 incidents of kidnap for ransom take place every year, including 1,000 involving foreign nationals.

Schillings' team is led by partner John Chase. The firm's website states that he has 'international expertise in advising prominent individuals, governments and multinational organisations on how to respond to kidnap for ransom, extortion, blackmail, piracy and cyber threats'.

Brit Ltd says the partners are 'committed to building innovative solutions' that help clients mitigate and respond to potential threats, and help protect their people, assets and reputations.

Rod Christie-Miller, chief executive and partner at Schillings, said: 'Crises happen with more frequency and with more long-term repercussions than ever before. With over 35 years' experience as an international issues and crisis law firm, this joint partnership will ensure that we continue to protect clients from reputation, privacy and security threats today, as well as the issues and crises of tomorrow.'
