Midlands law firm Wright Hassall has reported strong growth in profits and turnover as it celebrates its 170th anniversary.

Figures released today for the year ending 30 April show pre-tax profits up 12.5% to £3.6m on turnover up 10.7% to £17.6m. No figure for profit per equity partner was available.

Wright Hassall, based in Leamington, has a headcount of 270, including 145 lawyers and 43 partners. Sarah Perry, managing partner (pictured), said: 'The firm has achieved significant year-on-year growth over the last six years and we’re pleased our latest results show we have continued this strong performance.’

Investments in the past year include 12 solicitors in real estate and private client and the appointment of a non-legal operations director, she said.

'We have continued this recruitment drive into 2016 with the appointment of experts in housing, immigration, employment, wealth management, property litigation and agriculture, and also made further investments in our operational effectiveness, including the introduction of enhanced workflow technology.’

Trading in 2016 has so far been strong across all teams, she said, though uncertainty over the EU referendum is having an impact on some clients’ appetite to move forward on corporate and real estate investments.

'During 2016 we will continue to target continued growth in a number of priority sectors including advanced manufacturing and engineering, agricultural and housing, health and social care, gaming and development.'
