I've just been through the process of the South-Eastern DJ recruitment round. Application end of last year, interview in June, notification of success or failure next January. Anyone coming from private practice as a solicitor will spend a year not knowing whether they are going to resign their current job or not. It is an utterly ridiculous game, deeply wasteful of public resources and time.

Afterwards, they send out a request for feedback, at the end of which it includes a question about whether you are part of a minority, which to my surprise included solicitors.

Equally to my surprise, it didn't include a request about socio-economic background, whether you are state or privately educated, first generation university, etc.
