My understanding is legal privilege applies to licensed conveyancers. A public statement like that, which does not have the tone of having consent, would be anathema for a Solicitor (compare to Shoosmith's statement which is slightly different and they must have been confident they could reveal they hadn't acted in this matter, unlike previous public domain matters).
