Aaaah the gold fashioned "claimants' costs". Let's take my last little old lady death case as an example.

Damages just under £10k.

ATE £5k
GP expert on breach - £1,500k
General surgeon on causation - £3,500k
My costs - £4,800

NB: The time would have been around £1k less if I hadn't received double-sided and badly sorted paper hospital records.

Total "claimant's costs" = circa £14,800

It is a fact of life that the ATE plus expert fees plus Counsel fees is invariably a lot more than my time costs. I wonder who they'll hit though...

Mind you, if it was one of the "big boys" they'd be milking it for as much as possible so you could easily see a solicitor costs element of £10+k, with recovery of unrecovered fees from the client.
