Personally I think it's a great idea and would have real benefits for clients going through the conveyancing process. However knowing that you can technically do this, and being able to make it happen are two different things, and the law Society shouldn't underestimate the enormity of the task ahead.
I accept the point about clients having different agendas but similarly am tired of being blamed for clients actions. Most clients want to move and move quickly and anything that can be done to help this would be good for clients and good for conveyancers cashflow.
