Ashley Balls is right. This case was allowed to get out of hand. It was apparent from fairly early on that the husband was concealing his assets, was never going to come clean about them and that ultimately the court would be powerless to enforce any order it made in practical terms as the judge has now effectively said. Meanwhile the wife's obvious and breathtaking greed, obsession with pursuing the husband at all costs, and habit of courting publicity for her "cause" at every turn were both fuelling the litigation fire and causing the children to suffer. Surely it would be in the interests of all concerned in such cases to have a different system which controls the extent, cost and length of the litigation with a much greater degree of intervention. The inquisitorial system or some variant of it may be the answer. This has been a spectacular own goal not just for the parties but for the British legal system.
